Chikata, Yuichi
Dr. Yuichi Chikata is a board-certified interventional cardiologist at Juntendo University Hospital in Tokyo. He obtained his MD from Juntendo University in 2012 and completed his PhD program at Juntendo University Graduate School of Medicine under Dr. Hiroshi Iwata in 2021. Dr. Chikata conducted translational research integrating clinical data analysis with laboratory experiments, where his work focused on registry database analyses of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) cases, particularly in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) complicated by diabetes as well as laboratory studies of serum samples from PCI patients. Through this research, he investigated prognostic factors in CAD patients with diabetes. Since his PhD defense, Dr. Chikata has continued to bridge clinical and basic science by pursuing translational research. Recently, he has examined the role of high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-associated microRNAs in unstable coronary artery plaques detected by intravascular ultrasound.
Dr. Yuichi Chikata joined Prof. Aikawa’s laboratory to investigate the mechanisms of atherosclerosis progression, with a particular focus on inflammation and metabolic syndrome. By applying cutting-edge technologies, he aims to deepen our understanding of this disease and contribute to the development of improved therapeutic strategies.
