Terry, William D.
Dr. Terry received an A.B. from Cornell University (1954) and an M.D. from State University of NY, Downstate Medical Center (1958). After completing training in Internal Medicine, he joined the National Cancer Institute , NIH and between 1962 and 1978 conducted basic immunology research and performed clinical trials. From 1970 to 1978 he was Chief of the Immunology Branch and directed the Cancer Institute’s programs in cancer immunology, and from 1978 to 1982 he directed the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Centers and Cancer Control Programs.
Between 1982 to 1986 Dr. Terry served as Vice President for Biotechnology Research and Development and President of Meloy Laboratories for the Revlon Health Care Group and, subsequently, for Rorer Pharmaceuticals. He joined Damon Biotech in 1986 and became CEO and President and continued to run the company after it was acquired by Abbott Laboratories in 1990. In 1991, he became Senior Vice President for Research and Ventures at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital , a Harvard Medical School Affiliate, and from 1997 to 2005 served as Vice President for Corporate Sponsored Research and Licensing , Partners HealthCare System, Inc.
Dr. Terry then became the Executive Associate Director of the Reynolds Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School supporting Dr. Peter Libby, Chief of the Cardiovascular Division, in the management of this Center. In 2008 he began working with Dr. Masanori Aikawa to plan and design space for the Center for Interdisciplinary Sciences, a Center in the Cardiovascular Division of Brigham and Women’s hospital. The Center is funded by the Japanese company Kowa and Dr. Terry serves as the Director for BWH/Partners Liaison.
