Santos Cade, Jamil
Jamil Santos Cade, MD, completed his medical degree at Escola Superior de Ciencias da Santa Casa de Misericordia de Vitoria (EMESCAM), Brazil. He obtained his BSc in Medical Physiology from the University of East London (UEL), UK, after earning a Science without Borders scholarship from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and an Academic Merit Award from UEL. Dr. Cade performed studies in vascular reactivity at Federal University of Espirito Santo (UFES), Brazil, and particularly in vascular biology with a focus on the transcriptional control mechanisms in vascular remodeling and inflammation at University College London (UCL) and Royal Free Hospital, UK. He received awards for presenting work in the American Thoracic Society and European Society of Cardiology conferences in 2018 and 2019, respectively. As a medical student during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Cade voluntarily joined forces with frontline workers to help reduce the burden of the disease in the region of Vitoria, Brazil. He later led the return of medical students to teaching activities and clinical rotations in the hospital.
Dr. Cade is currently a student in Master of Medical Sciences in Clinical Investigation program at Harvard Medical School and is eager to develop essential skills and expertise to become an outstanding physician-scientist in the future. He joined CICS in November 2021 as a research student under mentorship of Dr. Elena Aikawa and is investigating molecular pathways and potential therapeutic targets in calcific aortic valve disease.
